No previous dance experience or knowledge of Irish dance is required to participate in our dance classes. In our beginner classes, we start from the very basics. The lessons progress in stages, and everyone is allowed to practice at their own pace. It is also very natural that the group has many different learners. In the classes, we never compete to see who can learn the fastest.
Irish dance is physical and rhythmic, but also very logical – many are surprised by how quickly the basics start to feel familiar. The focus in the class is on learning, not on perfect performance, and the most important thing is the joy you get from dancing. Irish dance combines music, movement and community in a unique way. It develops fitness and coordination, but above all, brings joy and energy to everyday life.
Feel free to join us!
Yes – Irish dancing is a great and versatile hobby for children!
Classes in Jyväskylä can be attended from the age of 6, and no previous dance experience is required. The teaching is age-appropriate, safe and encouraging. Irish dancing develops a child’s coordination, sense of rhythm, body control and concentration, while the child gets to move to the beat of the music and experience the joy of success. The sport also supports the development of basic motor skills and provides good preparation for all physical activity.
The teacher also has the Child Protection training required by the CLRG, and children’s education always takes place in a child-centered and safe environment. The most important thing in the classes is the joy of movement, music and the courage to experiment.
Am I required to compete or perform in Irish dancing?
No you are not. You can dance purely for your own enjoyment. Competitions and performances are voluntary for those who are interested in them.
If I want to dance in more goal-oriented way, is that possible?
Yes, absolutely! If you want, you can receive guidance for more goal-oriented training, competitions or performances. In Irish dance, you can even advance up to the world championship level in both solo and céilí dancing.
